Gavin Silber is a South African activist with a decade of local and international experience campaigning for more just and equal cities.  From 2009 to 2013, he served as Research Coordinator and Deputy General-Secretary at Social Justice Coalition (SJC), a Khayelitsha-based social movement advocating for improved public services in informal settlements.  From 2015 to 2016 he worked with Ndifuna Ukwazi (NU), supporting research and policy development to inform the formation of Reclaim the City, a new campaign for urban land justice in Cape Town.  He has previously worked at the Treatment Action Campaign (2002 – 2008), the Open Society Foundation (2015 – 2016), and the British Parliament (2002).  Gavin has a Masters in Urban Planning from New York University (2015) and a BA in Politics, Philosophy and Economics from the University of Cape Town (2006). His work at Tshisimani will focus on developing a primer course for activists on urban land and housing.
