Aphelele Mtwecu grew up in the Queenstown, Eastern Cape. She is a social and political activist and graduated from the University of the Free State with a B.Soc.Sc (Human and Societal Dynamics) majoring in Sociology. She has served in various student and worker formations in spearheading the call of #FeesMustFall and #OutsourcingMustFall. She has worked as a student research assistant for the Institute of Reconciliation and Social Justice at UFS and is currently the Deputy President of the Pan-Africanist Student Movement of Azania (PASMA). Aphelele is passionate about social justice, black consciousness, pan-africanism and is a feminist. She is currently studying towards an Honours degree in Sociology with UNISA.
